Phonics Ideas for Home

Phonics at Home

Ideas to use at home for daily phonics activities.  I will put some flashcards in the download section that can be printed but feel free to make your own, if you don’t have a printer they can just be written out.

Snap- make flashcards containing your child’s most recent phonic sounds or words and play snap with them.

Itsy Bitsy- use the flashcards and put them into a small bag/ box, get your child to sing the song itsy bitsy bumble bee what is in your bag for me, while they sing you pass the bag/ box around like pass the parcel, whoever it lands on takes a word out and reads it. Repeat until the words have all gone.

Bob and Obb/ treasure and trash- get 2 different containers 1 for real words and 1 for rubbish words,  take it in turns to read the words with your child and sort them into the correct  boxes.

Coins- place the flashcards upside down and take it in turns to read them, when you have read 1 take a piece of treasure/ coin/ counter at the end see who has read the most words.
