Reception Maths

Dear Parents

Reception will be starting a new maths approach as of next week.  It is focused on maths fluency in the early years, giving them a more in depth knowledge of number and maths skills.  The children will be going back to number 1 and working there way up to number 20.  We are aware that a lot of the children can count to 20 and beyond, however this approach focuses on more than counting and number recognition.  Through the teaching of the numbers the children will also be learning the value of the number, number bonds, coins, 2D and 3D shapes, measure, sharing, tally and ordinal numbers.
